Some Fun News PDF Print E-mail

Joe here with a few minor news items.

Slashfilm has another article on the way IMax is exploiting its name...and trying to pass off much smaller screens as full IMax.  *UPDATE* As Al pointed out to me (and I double checked), the Madison IMax has been verified as the "real deal."  So there.  Good for south central Wisconsinites.

In more film-world news, Christopher Nolan hasn't committed to a third Batman film.  Rumors say Heath Ledger's death hit Nolan really hard, and another Batman wouldn't hit the screen with him as the director until 2012 at the earliest.

For the ongoing promotion of Transformers 2, Paramount has released this list of fun factoids:

14 robots last time, 46 robots this time (ILM only)

If you had all the gold ever mined in the history of man, you could build a little more than half of Devastator.

Optimus Prime will be life size on IMAX screens in many forest fight shots.

Devastator’s hand is traveling 390 miles per hour when he punches the pyramid.

The pyramid destruction simulation was 8 times bigger than the old rigid simulation all-time record holder at ILM.

All robot parts laid out end to end would stretch from one side of California to the other, about 180 miles

Devastator’s parts stacked tip to tip would be as tall as 58 empire state buildings.

If all the texture maps on the show were printed on 1 square yard sheets, they would cover 13 football fields.

Here's something I liked: 20 classic films from the 1980s that are not getting remade (yet).  The list grows shorter every day, as Hollywood runs out of ideas and decides to go back and destroy our collective youth.

For proof that extreme success and wealth will bring forth law suits like nothing else, JK Rowling is being sued - for 500 million pounds, or around $1.2 billion - by the family of a deceased writer who apparently wrote a book about Willy the Wizard that was suspiciously similar to Harry Potter.  Yep, Willy.  Of course, they're only coming at Rowling with this lawsuit now, after the books have been out for almost a decade, which makes complete sense.

Gaming news:  IGN has a short piece up that essentially lists the highlights from the Game Informer magazine Max Payne 3 reveal article.  Tech Radar has a pretty interesting little article up about the evolution of video game graphics over the last thirty years.  And, startling news has come out from the Onion: Americans spend 90% of their waking hours staring at glowing rectangles.

After Da Weekend Movie Happenings PDF Print E-mail

Joe here with my movie news wrap up from this past weekend.

The Hangover dominated the boxoffice, winning the number one spot for the second weekend in a row with $33.4 million in earnings ($105.4 million two-weekend total).  It set a record for the fastest R-rated comedy to pass the $100 million mark.  Not too shabby.  Especially since it only cost $35 million to make.

Up took second place for the second weekend in a row with $30.5 million ($187.2 million total).  Tony Scott's crazy editing style combined with Denzel Washington and John Travolta only managed to net The Taking of Pelham 123 the third spot with $25 million (reviews haven't been very kind).  Night at the Museum 2 and Land of the Lost round out the top 5.  See Comingsoon.net for the full list.

In other news, Transformers 2 had its worldwide premiers all over the darn place.  Check out London's premier of the film for pictures of the cast.  No, not just Megan Fox.  There are other pictures.  Jeeze.

I found this picture amusing:

...and maybe a little heart-breaking.  From UberPix.

Since everyone likes conspiracy theories, here's one about the Wolverine leak.  It was certainly and interesting chain of events.  When the work print came out, it was one of the most heavily torrented files for about two weeks straight.  Fox came out saying the final print would be radically different...then the initial reviews said, "Wait, no it's pretty much exactly the same."  Most experts predicted that would hurt the box office, and maybe it did?  But the movie was still pretty darn successful (grossing $174 million domestically as of last weekend on a $150 million budget), so much so that some online pundits started suggesting piracy helps movies.  Not that one film makes a trend.  But still, interesting.  Especially if it was the Scientologist's fault all along.

And some news has come out about Christopher Nolan's next film, Inception.  You may remember Chistopher Nolan as the director of Isomnia, Memento...and, oh yeah, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (which has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide).  It looks like Inception, which was originally though to be a relatively small affair, actually has a $200 million budget.  I guess you get some freedom to spend some money if you make The Dark Knight.  I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hey everyone, Steve here with some SAJe news and some bad news... lets start with the SAJe news first before I break some hearts..

I have posted my review of Prototype, so go check it out!  Click here!  I know Joe is quickly approaching the end, so expect his review soon.

Unfortunatly, that is the end of the good news.  Yeah, enjoy it while it lasts.

Bad news is this, for all you out there who thought "Great!  Ghostbusters for the PC this week!  Time to zap some ghosts with my buds!"  Well, that's the bad news...  I've been looking and looking, hoping and praying, but, alas, check this out.  Yep, the PC version has no co-op, none, of any kind.  No DLC, no co-op, no sale!  Why, Atari?  There's co-op for 360, for PS3, why not PC?  PC's INVENTED co-op gaming and DLC!  So, you're only option is to either not buy the game or get it for a common console to play with friends.  I'm pretty mad about this, it really makes no sense, nor is there any excuse for this, it just seems lazy.  We'll still be reviewing it here at the SAJes, but we'll be reviewing PS3 instead of PC.  Just know, if any of you work at Atari and were responsible for this decision, I am one mad Steve!

Joe here with the main news of the day:

It's been announced.  Max is ten years older, living in South America, and, amusingly (if you've played the first two games) addicted to pain killers.  Since I probably gave Max a thousand pills over the course of those games, I suppose it makes sense.

For a random bit of fun, here's the top 100 best movie lines condensed into 200 seconds.  I don't agree with some of the picks, but at least they got "Welcome to the party, pal."

And in case you didn't believe our generally glowing reviews for inFamous, here's the ever hard to please Yahtzee with his amusing, yet positive, take on the game.
