Joe here with a roundup of the news from the weekend.

Talking gerbels dominated the box office this weekend, knocking Harry Potter off the throne with a $31.7 million take.  Harry Potter took in an additional $29.5 million, bringing it's total gross to $221.3 million so far.  The Ugly Truth, a romantic comedy, debuted at third with $27.6 million.  The Orphan opened at fourth with $12.9 million, while Ice Age tumbled from second to fifth this week, taking in $8.4 million.

ComicCon happened this weekend, and there is a ton of news.  Since TheSAJes weren't able to go this year, rather than give you tons of links to other places, I'll give you one link that serves as a good roundup of film and TV stuff through SlashFilm.  Also, in case you've been wondering when the Expanded Editions of the Lord of the Rings series will arrive on Blu Ray: tenatively a year after the regular versions.

Game-wise, Rock Paper Shotgun brings word that there is a new mod for Diablo 2 that allows you to play in any resolution.  This is very cool, and reminiscent of similar mods produced for Baldur's Gate and Planescape.  Note, however, that the mod only functions offline (can't use it on Battle.net).

Gametrailers has, among other things from ComicCon, gameplay from Alan Wake that gives us a decent feel for what we can expect from the suspense/thriller.

Joe here with the latest news from this weekend.

Harry Potter dominated the box office.  The Half Blood Prince came in at $77.8 million for July 17-19, putting it's total gross at $158 million so far.  Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs came in second at $17.5 million.  Transformers 2 stayed at third place for the second week in a row with $13.7 million.  Meanwhile, Bruno fell from first place to fourth place, earning only $8.4 million for the weekend.  The Proposal rounded out the top five with $8.3 million for the weekend.

In other movie news, Variety brings work that Morgan Freeman is in talks to star in Red, the in-development film based on Warren Ellis' comic book series that tells the story of an aging assassin coming out of retirement.

Aint It Cool brings word from Seth Rogen on his Green Hornet project.  There have been reports of trouble on the set, but Seth remains optomistic.

Fangoria has a breaking story on the adaptation of Max Brook's World War Z.  There's a new screenwriter taking on the adaptation: Michael Matthew Carnahan.

Slashfilm has a story about Sean Bean headlining the HBO adaptation of George RR Martin's A Game of Thrones fantasy series, playing Eddard Stark.

Slashfilm also has word, through Marvel, that Iron Man 2 has wrapped principle photography.  The sequel is set to come out next year.

In game news, RockPaperShotgun has a write up on a pretty cool sounding Half Life 2 mod.  The nice thing about mods?  They're free.

Also, Bioware has released a video developed diary explaining why they decided to make The Old Republic the first MMO with fully voiced dialogue (which is a huge undertaking).

And GameTrailers has a new E3 walkthrough of God of War 3 online.

Joe here with the many happenings following the all-too-short weekend.

Bruno took the lead of the box office this weekend with $30.6 million in earnings.  Ice Age was close behind with $27.6, and Transformers 2 fell in at third with $24.2 million.  Public Enemies, with $13.7 million, and The Proposal, with $10.4 million, rounded out the top five.

Marvel studos has announced that Natalie Portman (pictured above, in case you've never seen her before) will star in the upcoming Thor film, as the nurse who becomes Thor's first human love.

Slashfilm brings word of the rumor that Amazon wants to buy Netflix.  It's not a surprising rumor, necessarily.

Aint It Cool found out that Danny Huston will be playing King Richard the Lionheart in Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood live action flick.

Empire Online has an interview up with Edgar Wright.  Who the hell is that?  Ever heard of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz?  That's who.

Did you know Megan Fox was in Bad Boys II?  As a stripper?  When she was 15 years old?  Yep.

Amazon has a Matrix-sized one day blu-ray sale, with the trilogy going for 55% off, today only.

In game news, Take-Two has revealed that Bioshock 2 will be delayed until 2010.  Sigh.

Heavy Rain, on the other hand, may come out on time!  Whenever that is.

And, this is interesting for TheSAJes.  Are we journalists?  At what point do we become journalists?  And who decides?

Oh, and not much is coming out this week in terms of games, unless you are big into football.  If you are, you probably already know NCAA Football 10 iis coming out.
