Joe here, with the news of the strange and bizarre...

Bryan Singer is reportedly going to direct a reboot film adaptation of the original Battlestar Galactica series.  Got all that?  This will not be related to the awesome series that just wrapped up earlier this year on the "SyFy" channel. Supposedly this is confirmed, it's going to happen, the film is getting fasttracked into production and Singer could get a $10 million paycheck for directing it.  Singer was a part of the original Galactica reboot that got dropped after the 9/11 attacks made the Sci Fi channel all gun shy about a surprise attack by the Cylons.  Of course, Ron Moore eventually came on and produced the amazing (if not amazingly popular) Battlestar Galactica series we here at The SAJes know and love.

Apparently someone believes this reboot to be a good idea.  I'm not sure.

News on the Superman front: Warner Brothers has lost part of the lawsuit to the heirs of Superman creators Siegel and Shuster.  This means that the Siegel family now owns the copyright to Superman's origin (including Krypton, Jor El, and Superman crashlanding on Earth), his costume, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and the Daily Planet.  However, DC Comics still owns the right to everything that became a part of the character after about two weeks of Superman comics publications, which includes his flight, vision powers, Kryptonite, Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, and his expanded origins (whatever that means).

This could make the next Superman film very interesting indeed, especially if the Siegel family wants too much for the use of their parts of the copyright...or if they won't let the studio use those parts at all.  And the nail in the coffin?  If by 2013 Warner Brothers hasn't come out with a new Superman film, all the copyright will revert to the Siegel family, meaning they can shop out the character and story to other studios.

In cooler news, the crime MMO APB will be subscription free, a la Guild Wars.  This is good.  Also, Steam has a sale on all Half Life titles (66% off), so if you've been living in a cave for the last eleven years you might want to pick these up.  It's hard to beat Half Life 2 for $6.79.  But GoGamer will try!  They have a new 48 Hour Madness sale, with lots of things available.  Not much of interest to me, personally, but you may find exactly what you've been waiting for...

Joe here with the latest from the weekend...

GI Joe kicked some serious butt, taking first place at the box office with $56.2 million in earnings on it's opening weekend.  It will be interesting to see how it sustains through next weekend.  Julie and Julia also opened this weekend and found its way to second place with $20.0 million.  G-Force held onto third place, earning $9.8 million, while Harry Potter fell from second to fourth, earning only another $8.8 million over the weekend.  Funny People, which was number one last week, rounds out the top five at $7.9 million.

Given the smash hit (over one weekend...) of GI Joe, it shouldn't surprise anyone that a sequel is already in the works.

Speaking of sequels, Hugh Jackman talked to MTV and revealed that prep work has started on Wolverine 2, and that it will take place in Japan.

As you might have guessed from the image, there is movement on the Kill Bill front.  Tarantino is reportedly close to finishing up the Blu Ray "Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair," which combines parts 1 and 2 and adds more to the anime sequence from 1.

For those of you who are as excited by District 9 as I am (coming this weekend!), Aint It Cool has an interview up with the first time director.  There be spoilers here!

In game news, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will be getting a Collectors Edition release, which has, among other things, a comic book that might explain some of the crazy back story (I doubt that, though).

For those who like pretty pictures and detailed cars going over dirty roads: Dirt 2.

More, slightly less pretty pictures (but these involve flamethrowers): Wolfenstein.

And, yes.  Just Cause is heading for the Big Screen.  That'll be cool.  *Dude, are you, like, being sarcastic?*  ...  I don't even know anymore.

Joe here with the Monday news roundup.

Funny People, the Judd Apatow dramedy, took first place at the box office this weekend with around $23.4 million in earnings.  Harry Potter stuck to second place with $17.7 million.  G-Force fell from first to third, earning $17.0 million.  The Ugly Truth ($13.0 million) and Aliens in the Attic (opening at $7.8 million) rounded out the top five.

Rumors have been swirling today after Tom Arnold apparently referenced getting back together with James Cameron and Arnold to make a spiritual successor to True Lie...but James Cameron himself denies the rumor, making a pretty convincing arguement about why it wouldn't be a great idea post-9/11.

The above image was released a while ago by Marvel, for Iron Man 2 (which recently wrapped principle filming), but Slashfilm has a write up on what exactly Tony Stark is looking at so intently.

Slashfilm also brings word that ABC is teaming with Netflix to allow users to stream the first five seasons of Lost, a few seasons of Desperate Housewives, and some other shows direct from Netflix.

Jeremy Renner (of Hurt Locker) may be in the next Mad Max movie (at least, he's screen testing for the role).

Steven Spielberg's next film is...a remake.  Of Harvey.  The movie with about a man and his giant imaginary rabbit.

Not yet inundated with Avatar information?  Haven't suffered enough hyperbole about the next great leap forward in filmmaking?  This may help push you over the edge...

Wrapping up interesting movie news for the day/weekend past, David Twohy (Pitch Black, Riddick) mentions he and Vin would like another go at the Riddick universe...but they don't want to compromise like they did on Chronicles of Riddick.

In awesome game news: a demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum will be available on Friday (Aug 7th) for both the 360 and the PS3.

Game news has been slow of late, but we'll keep you informed as things happen.

Joe here...

This fits solidly in the "I hope it's cool" category.

Ridley Scott is officially set to return to the Alien universe, in a prequel (rather than a remake as originally hinted at).  Scott, of course, directed the first Alien back in 1979, which kicked off the entire massive merchandizing...er, story telling empire that is Alien/Aliens.

Awesome?  Terrible?  We'll see, but I hope for something amazing.
